01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Tucked into a quiet side street in Higashi-Gotanda, Okamezushi (阿亀寿し) is an unpretentious spot where guests can comfortably step through the noren curtain to enjoy good sushi. Welcomed by the owner across the counter, the dining room has a warm atmosphere that feels easy and relaxing, even if you are dropping in by yourself.

From Accessible Lunches to Generous Rice Bowls

The midday service menu includes a standard single-portion set featuring six pieces of nigiri alongside three sushi rolls, as well as a hearty 1.5-portion option for bigger appetites. The colorful kaisendon seafood rice bowl can be ordered in regular or large servings, while the special deluxe lunch provides an elevated alternative when you feel like indulging.

Leisurely Evenings of Nigiri and Cooked Dishes

Come evening, the bill of fare broadens to include special deluxe sushi, premium assortments, chirashi sushi rice bowls, tekka-ju tuna boxes, and negitoro. Individual nigiri options cover kohada (gizzard shad), shima-aji (striped jack), medai (Japanese butterfish), scallops, and cockle clams, complemented by cooked items such as grilled conger eel, salt-grilled fresh kuruma prawn, and grilled squid tentacles. Selecting dishes at your own pace alongside a beer or chilled sakes like Hakkaisan, Urakasumi, and Takashimizu makes dinner here particularly pleasant.

Because seat reservations are accepted, this neighborhood sushi restaurant easily accommodates both casual daytime visits and quieter evening meals.
